8.50 – 9.00 - Welcome
The children will arrive between 8.50 and 9.00 am. They will be greeted by a member of staff, they will be asked to find their own name card and post it in our registration box. Any children bringing their lunch with them will be asked to place their lunch boxes on the storage rack provided. Other members of staff will be available to help the children choose which activity they wish to play with. Parents will be encouraged to bring their children into the setting and to stay for a short while if they wish.
9.15 – 11.15 – Activities and Free Play
The children will move around the playroom freely, members of staff will be on hand to play with the children, or to read them a story. During this time the children will have the opportunity to participate in a more structured activity (covering one of the 6 learning areas) with their key worker. Many of these activities will be planned for outside in order that children gain the benefit of learning in the outdoor environment. However, the doors to the outside area are open for most of the session to enable children to take any learning they do inside into the outdoor area, and gain the experience of all forms of weather. Children are able to access resources by themselves or are encouraged to ask for anything they are particularly interested in. During the morning the children will be invited to join small groups for singing, sounds and letters and problem solving and numeracy games.
Snack time
There is a snack menu on display in the foyer and in the kitchen.
During the morning we will be operating a “snack bar” where the children are free to come to the snack table when they want to and have their snack without interrupting their play. The children are encouraged to chat about what they have been doing during the session, or about family and home life. On special occasions such as birthdays the children have their snack in a circle where they will play a circle game, for example pass the smile or the children will play a musical instrument game.
Snack will be of a healthy and nutritious nature reflecting different cultures. Children will be given the opportunity to contribute to the planning and preparation of snacks. The children then have a drink, which they are encouraged to pour for themselves. The drink will be juice, water or milk. The children are also encouraged to clear away their plates and cups. We will always ensure that the children have washed their hands before having their snack.
11.15 – 11.25 - Tidy-up time
Children and adults will tidy up together.
11.25 – 11.35 – Come Together Time
The children and adults will come together in their key person groups to talk about what they have been doing in the morning. We will look at the weather and discuss with the children what they want to play with at the next session. This is an opportunity for the children to get to know the other children in their key person groups.
10.35 - 11.45 Story time
The children and staff will sit in groups for story time.
11.45 – 11.50 Switch Over Time
The children will be split into two groups, those going home and those staying all day. Children who are staying all day will go in to the Quiet Room with an adult and do some singing. The children who are going home will get their coats and bags ready for their parent/carers come to collect them. We will usually sing a few songs whilst we are waiting.
