12.30 - Session begins and registration

The children will arrive at 12.30 p.m. They will be greeted by a member of staff, they will be asked to find their own name card and post it in our registration box. Other members of staff will be available to help the children choose which activity they wish to play with. Parents will be encouraged to bring their children into the setting and to stay for a short while if they wish.

12.35 - 2.00 - Activities

The children will move around the playroom freely, members of staff will be on hand to play with the children, or to read them a story. During this time the children will be asked to participate in a more structured activity (covering one of the 6 learning areas) with their key person. Many of these activities will be planned for outside in order that children gain the benefit of learning in the outdoor environment. However, the doors to the outside area are open for most of the session to enable children to take any learning they do inside into the outdoor area, and gain the experience of all forms of weather.

2.00 - 2.10 Tidy-up time

Children and adults will tidy up together.

2.10 - Come together

The children will all come together on the carpet for a few minutes where we will say good afternoon in various languages, count how many children there are and talk about what we have been doing.

2.10 - 2.20 - Story Time

The children and staff will sit in groups for story time.

2.20 - Wash hands

The children will be taken to the toilet and to wash their hands.

2.25 - Snack time

There is a snack menu on display in the foyer and in the kitchen.

This will sometimes be in key person groups or as "rolling snack", where the children are free to come to the snack table during the morning and have their snack without interrupting their play.  The children are encouraged to chat about what they have been doing during the session, or about family and home life. If the children have their snack in a circle they will play a circle game, for example pass the smile. Or the children will play a musical instrument game.

Snack will be of a healthy and nutritious nature reflecting different cultures. Children will be given the opportunity to contribute to the planning and preparation of snacks. The children then have a drink, which they are encouraged to pour for themselves. The drink will be juice, water or milk. One child will then be chosen to collect the cups.

2.35 - 2.45 - Outside / physical play

The children will be taken out side with all members of staff to play.

If the weather is very bad they will have music/movement or circle games inside.

2.45 - Singing time

As a whole group the children and staff sing songs or rhymes. The children will often choose the songs they wish to sing.

When there are different age ranges attending one session, the younger and older children will be separated for play time and singing time

2.55 - 3.00 - Home time

The children are given any work they may have completed, any letters that need to go home. They will remain sitting until their parent/carer comes into the setting to collect them.

To cater for children who stay all day we try to ensure that the activities on offer in the morning are not repeated in the afternoon. This ensures they have a range of experiences and stimulation. We also make sure that there is an area for children who stay all day to rest if they need to.
