11.50 – Welcome

The children who arrive at 11.50 p.m will be greeted by a member of staff. The children will be asked to find their own name card and post it in our registration box and put their lunch boxes on the lunch rack. They will then be asked to go and wash their hands and join the other children at the lunch tables.

11.50 – 12.25 - Lunch Time

The children who are staying all day will be taken to the toilet and to wash their hands. The children will collect their packed lunch. They will sit in small groups to eat their lunch with the lunch time staff. The children will also get the opportunity to choose the equipment that is being put out for the afternoon session.

After the children have finished their lunch they will have time to rest if they wish, they can help the staff put out the toys or they can simply play.

12.25 – 2.15 – Activities and Free Play

The children will move around the playroom freely, members of staff will be on hand to play with the children, or to read them a story. During this time the children will have the opportunity to participate in a more structured activity (covering one of the 6 learning areas) with their key person. Many of these activities will be planned for outside in order that children gain the benefit of learning in the outdoor environment. However, the doors to the outside area are open for most of the session to enable children to take any learning they do inside into the outdoor area, and gain the experience of all forms of weather. Children are able to access resources by themselves or are encouraged to ask for anything they are particularly interested in. During the afternoon the children will be invited to join small groups for singing, sounds and letters and problem solving and numeracy games.

Snack time

There is a snack menu on display in the foyer and in the kitchen.

During the afternoon we will be operating a “snack bar” where the children are free to come to the snack table when they want to and have their snack without interrupting their play. The children are encouraged to chat about what they have been doing during the session, or about family and home life. On special occasions such as birthdays the children have their snack in a circle where they will play a circle game, for example pass the smile or the children will play a musical instrument game.

Snack will be of a healthy and nutritious nature reflecting different cultures. Children will be given the opportunity to contribute to the planning and preparation of snacks. The children then have a drink, which they are encouraged to pour for themselves. The drink will be juice, water or milk. The children are also encouraged to clear away their plates and cups. We will always ensure that the children have washed their hands before having their snack.

2.10 – 2.20 Tidy-up time

Children and adults will tidy up together.

2.20 – 2.25 – Come together

The children and adults will come together in their key person groups to talk about what they have been doing in the morning. We will look at the weather and discuss with the children what they want to play with at their next session. This is an opportunity for the children to get to know the other children in their key person groups.

2.25 – 2.45 - Story Time

The children and staff will sit in groups for story time.

2.45 – 2.50 Home Time

The children who will be asked to get their coats and bags and sit on chairs until their parent/carers come to collect them. We will usually sing a few songs whilst we are waiting.

To cater for children who stay all day we try to ensure that the activities on offer in the morning are not repeated in the afternoon. This ensures they have a range of experiences and stimulation. We also make sure that there is an area for children who stay all day to rest if they need to.
